Post contributed by Sharon, volunteer bluebird trail monitor:
Bluebird nesting season is now underway, a bit earlier than last year due to
the warmer weather. All eleven nest boxes were installed between March 13 and
April 2 and I spotted my first bluebird in the park on March 28.

One
box already has a complete, beautifully crafted bluebird nest in it, just
waiting for eggs. Three others have small amounts of pine needles or dried
grass inside, most likely placed by bluebirds. Another box has what is likely
the beginning of a house sparrow nest. Those materials are not so expertly
woven, with a majority placed against the front door, and some larger leaves
inside. I will check back in a few days to determine if it is definitely a
house sparrow nest, before I remove the materials.
